The event was a training format for mid-career professionals about innovative and effective financing strategies for land and resource conservation, restoration, and stewardship.
Conservation Finance Boot Camps have been organised annually by the US-based Conservation Finance Network in a collaborative effort with the private sector, charitable foundations, public agencies, conservation groups, and academic institutions.
The event took place in the context of the LIFE European Networks for Private Land Conservation (ENPLC) project in Transylvania, Romania. The region is known for its low-intensity agriculture and its abundant flora and fauna. The historic Transylvanian Saxon villages and their surroundings are now seen in Romania and globally as a high-priority area for conservation and for understanding how the preservation and restoration of such areas can be financed.
Participants convened in Angofa, a village located near Sighisoara, where Fundatia ADEPT is developing a model farm to show how innovation and new markets can support traditional communities and small-scale, sustainable farming.
