The webinar highlighted the European Union’s forest restoration policies, which often focused on planting new trees while neglecting the importance of managing existing forest stands and improving their heterogeneity and diversity—a more suitable approach for Mediterranean forests from an adaptation perspective. The goal of the webinar was to discuss the management and conservation challenges Mediterranean forests face in the current climate change scenario and to promote the exchange of experiences and scientific knowledge to inform decision-making.
The session began with an introduction to the LIFE RedBosques_Clima project, followed by a discussion on the priorities for adapting Mediterranean forests to climate change. This was followed by a presentation on the LIFE Resland project, which focused on climate change adaptation for Mediterranean forests. Next, there was a presentation of the key forest management challenges in the region, as identified by the LIFE GoProForMed project. The event concluded with an open discussion with participants, moderated by an expert.
