Description
The 16th edition of the International Peatland Congress (IPC2021) will be held virtually from 3 – 6 May.
The Congress takes place every four years and remains the official meeting point for International Peatland Society members, other peatland specialists and experienced scientists. Each edition attracts some 800 participants.
During the plenary on 6 June, a LIFE session on: ‘Restoring peatlands for biodiversity conservation and for tackling climate change through LIFE – EU LIFE funding 2021-2027’ is foreseen. It will promote the new Bringing nature back through LIFE study and outline the new LIFE programme for 2021-2027.
Specifically, the session will present LIFE projects’ contribution to nature conservation in Europe, including its work on species protection, habitat restoration and protected areas.
How LIFE has worked to conserve and restore peatlands across Europe will also be highlighted.
Participants will gain some useful insights into the new LIFE programme’s structure, sub-programmes, budget and type of projects foreseen.
And various LIFE beneficiaries will showcase their projects in break-out sessions: LIFE Welsh Raised Bogs, Marches Mosses BogsLIFE, Hydrology LIFE, LIFE Mires Estonia and LIFE Peat Restore.
