Of this, €220 million will go towards projects related to the environment. And €60 million will support climate action initiatives.
This includes major investments aimed at enhancing Europe’s biodiversity, improving energy efficiency in buildings, and reducing the negative impact of energy-intensive industries on our planet.
Among other challenges, these projects will support the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030, contribute to EU Green recovery post COVID-19, and help Europe become a climate-neutral continent by 2050. Also, as many of these new projects involve several countries working together, LIFE’s impact will be felt across every Member State.
EU funding under the LIFE programme for the Environment and Climate Action will also mobilise additional investments, meaning nearly €590 million will help more than 120 new LIFE projects meet their ambitious goals. This amount represents a 37% rise on last year.
See the official press release here as well as descriptions of all the new LIFE projects at the time of writing.
