The inaugural Waterborne Days will take place in Brussels on 26-27 September 2023. The event is co-organised by the Waterborne Technology Platform and the European Commission as an interactive, in-person conference open to all stakeholders in the waterborne transport sector. It will offer the opportunity to exchange views on the main trends in waterborne research and innovation (R&I), and assess the contribution of the sector to the EU green deal.
The conference will feature thought-provoking presentations, interactive panel discussions, and engaging workshops looking at strategic opportunities in areas such as sustainable fuels, electrification and energy efficiency. A number of successful CINEA-supported projects will also be present at the event.
The event will also include the Waterborne Awards ceremony honouring four projects with outstanding stories of innovation, sustainability, or market uptake.

Description
The programme will include presentations and panel discussions with representatives from the European Commission and industry stakeholders. The Directorate-General of Research and Innovation (DG RTD), along with Directorate General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), Directorate General for Climate (DG CLIMA) and the European Climate Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) will showcase the link between the EU’s green shipping policies and innovation, with sessions on policy, funding, financing and internationalisation.
Dedicated sessions will focus on R&I and the latest policy developments in the main ship types (cruise, inland waterway transport, long distance, offshore, short sea shipping and ferries), along with workshops on each of the areas (ports, electrification, sustainable alternative fuels, energy efficiency, design and retrofit and digital green) of the Zero Emission Waterborne Transport partnership’s strategic research and innovation agenda (SRIA).
