Raising recycling by sorting plastics from mixed municipal solid waste

The webinar, co-organised by PlastLIFE and MSWPlast, aimed to inspire a discussion on the crucial role of centralised sorting in municipal mixed waste management and the recycling of plastics.

This event took place on 6 March 2024 and addressed the challenges faced in Finland to meet recycling targets for municipal solid waste (MSW) and plastic packaging. It focused on the solution of sorting the residual MSW, ultimately contributing to an increased MSW recycling rate.

The webinar was composed of presentations by experts from projects and other related institutions, which discussed plastic volumes in Finland, results from the MSWPlast project, the terms of exporting and importing mixed municipal waste and plastic waste, and perspectives of MSW sorting facilities in Finland, the Netherlands and Sweden.
