Never beyond repair – How an EU standard drives product repairability

The online workshop, ‘Never Beyond Repair – How an EU Standard Drives Product Repairability’, took place on 3 April 2025 and focused on improving Standard EN45554:2020 to support the right to repair.

ECOS and ANEC hosted an online workshop on the standardisation of repairability, as part of the reaLIFEstandards project. Open to members and stakeholders involved in ecodesign and energy labelling, this event focused on Standard EN45554:2020, which had already been integrated into the French repair index, EU ecodesign and energy labelling requirements for smartphones, and various sustainability labels. The discussion explored how this standard could be improved to bring us closer to a universal right to repair.

Participants had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of repairability standards, gain insights into the interaction between regulation and standardisation, learn best practices for including NGOs in national standardisation work, and engage in an interactive discussion on improving product repairability.
