Top peatlands experts and representatives of LIFE projects working on peatlands are meeting in Berlin 26-28 April to present best practices and policy developments for peatlands restoration. The event is hosted by Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU).

Description
Peatlands are home to many rare and threatened species found nowhere else. They help to regulate our climate by storing carbon, reduce flooding and act as a buffer against pollution. But Europe’s peatlands are disappearing fast; today, only 10% are in good condition.
Restoring and protecting peatlands can improve water retention and quality, store carbon, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve biodiversity.
This LIFE platform meeting will look at improving the outlook for Europe’s peatlands. Agenda items include:
- EU policy on protecting peatlands, including the recently proposed Nature Restoration Law.
- LIFE’s work since 1992 to conserve and restore Europe’s peatlands - and its plans until 2027.
- The challenges facing peatland conservation.
- Restoring peatlands for climate change mitigation.
- Peatlands and land use.
- Funding for peatland restoration.
Several LIFE peatland project representatives will present their experiences of working on the ground.
