On 17 and 18 December, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) hosted an info day to present the key features and award criteria of the Innovation Fund 2024 Call (IF24 Call) and the Innovation Fund 2024 Battery call (IF24 Battery), and present the lessons learned from previous calls to demonstrate best practices.

The IF24 Call has designated €2.4 billion for projects that have a significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in various sectors including, cleantech manufacturing, maritime, renewables, energy storage and energy-intensive industries. The IF24 Call covers the following 5 topics: General decarbonisation for large-scale, medium-scale, and small-scale projects, plus cleantech manufacturing and pilots.
The IF24 Battery call has allocated €1 billion for electric-vehicle battery cell manufacturing projects that demonstrate innovative technologies, processes, or products.
The application window for both calls will be open until 24 April 2025.

Description
With an estimated revenue of €40 billion from 2020 to 2030 from the EU Emissions Trading System, the Innovation Fund aims to create financial incentives for companies and public authorities to invest in cutting-edge low-carbon technologies and support Europe's transition to climate neutrality.
The Innovation Fund already secured about €7.2 billion for cleantech projects through its previous calls for proposals.
On 3 December 2024, the Commission has launched three calls for proposals to accelerate the deployment of innovative technologies in Europe: the Innovation Fund 2024 Call (IF24 Call), the Innovation Fund 2024 Battery call (IF24 Battery), and the Innovation Fund 2024 Auction (IF24 Auction). The info day for the IF24 Auction took place on 10 December 2024.
