Ahead of #EuropeDay on 9 May when we celebrate the Schuman Declaration, the EU institutions traditionally open their doors to the public. This year on Saturday 6 May, you can visit the European Commission's headquarters in Brussels, the Berlaymont building, from 10:00 to 18:00 and discover more about our work through a variety of activities and exhibitions.
In CINEA, we are happy to be involved in the celebrations as part of the Green Village along with three of our projects and a photo selection showcasing the best of the #LIFEis30 exhibition. Join us and learn more about EU-funded research and innovation and projects on a mission for climate, oceans and the environment.

Description
Discover the Green Village and meet the people behind our EU-funded projects: Plastic Pirates, EU4OCEANS, and LIFE ICEGREEN.
PLASTIC PIRATES - Go Europe!
Plastic Pirates is a European Citizen Science campaign in which schools and youth groups collect plastic samples from streams and rivers and document their findings. The collected data is then analysed by scientists and researchers. In this way, young European citizens are making an important contribution to mapping the state of European rivers and the extent of plastic pollution.
This initiative is funded under the EU's Horizon 2020 programme and contributes to the EU's Mission to Restore our Ocean and Waters.
Activities at the stand: get hands-on in a live experiment where you become the scientist. Using nets, microscopes and petri dishes, see if you can sort out the different small particles found in rivers. Separating out those of natural origin and from the micro plastics is not as easy as you might think!
EU4OCEAN
Eu4Ocean is a coalition that connects diverse organisations, projects and people to promote ocean literacy and sustainable management of the ocean. Through various activities, for example with schools and young people, the initiative helps boost awareness and engagement on issues and challenges relating to our oceans.
This initiative is funded under the EU's EMFAF programme and contributes to the EU's Mission to Restore our Ocean and Waters.
Activities at the stand: take part in an Ocean trivia quiz, get your photo taken at the booth with an Ocean theme, explore the European Atlas of the Sea and make your Ocean pledge!
LIFE ICEGREEN
The ICEGREEN project successfully brought to market a new generation of innovative ice cream machines that use refrigerants with near-zero global warming potential in place of fluorinated gases.
This initiative was funded under the LIFE programme and aligns with the EU's Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change
Activities at the stand: join our interactive quiz where players will learn about how the LIFE programme is helping to preserve our environment, conserve nature and act on climate. Not only that…but all participating players will be rewarded with a sustainable gelato ice cream cup from LIFE ICE GREEN!
#LIFEis30 photo exhibition
We will also present a selection of photos from an exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of the LIFE programme. #LIFEis30 exhibition showcased powerful images from some of the most innovative and inspirational LIFE projects, showing what we can do to preserve our planet and ensure a better future for generations to come.
EVIDENT
In addition, the Horizon 2020 project EVIDENT will be present at the Europe Informs Village. The project envisions the formulation of a framework to explain behaviour and identify drivers for household energy consumption.
Activities at the stand: participants will be able to play the EVIDENT serious game, a life-simulation game in which users are tasked with maintaining their virtual home, while ensuring their avatar remains comfortable (i.e., basic needs such as hunger, warmth and hygiene are met). The EVIDENT serious game explores consumer behaviour in response to a malfunctioning home appliance, e.g., examining how consumers approach decisions to repair or replace a broken home appliance, and the impact of behavioural biases on these decisions.
