Report published on findings from EU-funded projects supporting the uptake of energy efficiency measures in industry and services

Report analysed the impact of 41 EU funded projects and their contribution to policy implementation

Report on Market Uptake of Energy Efficiency Measures in Industry and Services

The report has identified a number of lessons learned and conclusions resulting from the investigation of the achievements and impacts of 41 evaluated projects from the Intelligent Energy Europe and H2020 programmes. It clearly outlines the role projects have played in supporting the policy implementation (e.g. Art.8 of the Energy Efficiency Directive) and stresses that the implementation of the measures and methodologies developed by the analysed projects can lead to a reduction of roughly 4.5% of the total final energy consumption at company level.

The report identifies key challenges for the improvement of energy efficiency in industry and services, such as engaging SMEs in exploring their energy efficiency potential, lack of knowledge and awareness of the benefits of energy efficiency, lack of appropriate energy data and energy efficiency improvements not being considered as a strategic investment by decision makers in industry and SMEs.

The findings of the study carried out by Ricardo on behalf the Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA), were also informing the development of the LIFE Calls for Proposals, in particular, the for the Clean Energy Transition sub-programme. Funding will be available to support industry and services to improve their energy performance in the upcoming LIFE Call for Proposals 2021.
