Background information
The New European Bauhaus (NEB) is an initiative launched by the European Commission to translate the European Green Deal into tangible changes on the ground which improve our daily lives. It is developing, producing, and scaling up sustainable solutions to transform the built environment for the better under the green transition. At the same time, it makes these solutions inclusive, accessible and affordable for all while respecting the diversity of places, traditions, and cultures in Europe and beyond.
Destination NEB is an intermediary step meant to lay the foundation for the NEB Facility, which was set up through the adoption of the Strategic Plan 2025-2027 of the Horizon Europe Programme on 20 March 2024. Having research and innovation at its core, the NEB Facility will offer a strategic and pioneering opportunity to revitalise European neighbourhoods with a design for sustainability and inclusion. It will allow for a singular transparent, coherent funding instrument that brings together the different strands and dimensions of the initiative.
The three topics of the Destination NEB are the potential of secondary bio-based products, a New European Bauhaus Hub for results and impact, and new governance models for the co-design and co-construction of public spaces in neighbourhoods by communities.
