Webinar: The sustainability of plastics - LIFE networking meeting

The webinar, held on the mornings of 19 and 20 November, explored plastics sustainability through the lens of LIFE projects, addressing critical issues and solutions for improving circularity and tackling plastic waste in the EU.

The webinar on plastics sustainability tackled the main challenges and solutions surrounding plastic waste and circularity within the EU, drawing on the experiences of LIFE and other EU-funded projects.

The event explored achievements, challenges, and gaps in areas such as governance, product design, reuse, and recycling. It also discussed the requirements for sustainable plastics and the necessary policy changes to achieve circular economy goals. The meeting prioritised circular plastic solutions, biobased plastics, and alternatives to single-use plastics, addressing emerging technologies, market conditions, and the role of policies such as the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

The agenda featured expert discussions on the EU's plastics strategy, including its challenges and opportunities, innovations from LIFE projects, and the key obstacles to achieving plastic sustainability. Attendees gained insights into policy impacts, LIFE projects, and strategies to enhance circularity and reduce plastic waste across Europe.
