The quantitative potential, effectiveness and impacts of negative emission technologies and practices (NETPs) are not clearly understood.
To tackle this problem, the EU-funded NEGEM project will use a multidisciplinary approach to go beyond the perspectives of climate physics and climate economics, on which climate scenario modelling is currently based.
Focussing on a real-world perspective, it will filter the theoretical potential of NETPs through a range of key performance indicators. The project will determine the extent to which NETPs are needed to achieve climate neutrality and how their associated technical, economic and socio-political impacts could limit their contribution.
The purpose is to obtain results helping to identify the actions needed to achieve climate neutrality.
