Integrated assessment models (IAMs) integrate energy, economy, land, water and climate into a consistent modelling framework that provides climate-change-mitigation pathways differentiated per sector and region.
IAMs offer valuable information to support the design and evaluation of climate policies. The EU-funded NAVIGATE project aims to advance IAMs capability in two directions.
First, it improves the representation of transformative structural and technological change in the economy and in different sectors, as industry and land-use, and analyses changes in lifestyle and consumption and their implications.
Secondly, it depicts the distributional implications of climate policies, the impacts of climate change and the benefits of mitigation and adaptation strategies in terms of avoided damages and reduced inequality.
The project aims to offer new knowledge to effectively support international climate policy processes, like the global stocktaking in 2023 and related EU climate policy discussions.
