ENSAMBLE

Expertise and Networking to Sustain Actions in Med through Blue and Local Economy

Ensamble project.2

Engaging local communities to boost the blue economy in the Mediterranean is the main goal of ENSAMBLE project. Coordinated by the Italian FLAG "Costa degli Etruschi" for the Tuscany Region, the project partnership involves an innovative French cooperative based in the Mediterranean (Petra Patrimonia Corsica), an Italian environmental Association (Legambiente Toscana) and a Tunisian environmental Association (WWF North Africa), with the support of the Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

ENSAMBLE aims at creating a network of local fishing communities in Tunisia, France and Italy to facilitate, through a participatory approach, the elaboration of a Community-led Local Development (CLLD) strategy in fishermen communities in North Africa and to exchange best practices with Italy and France, where the CLLD model has been already developed. ENSAMBLE brings together public and private maritime actors and lays its foundations on the ground, where the challenges and needs of local fishery communities arise.

The project’s CLLD approach is at the heart of the Common Fisheries Policy for the development of local fisheries communities. ENSAMBLE aims at increasing the sustainable development of fishing and aquaculture of local firms as well as their diversification, to support sustainable tourism focused on territorial heritage and traditions of the coastal towns and villages, with particular attention to the role of women and young people.

ENSAMBLE is steadily increasing Mediterranean fishing operators’ professional and entrepreneurial skills, it is developing new job opportunities and actively involving women and youth throughout the supply chain. Innovation, entrepreneurship and job diversification in the participating fishing communities are key to its success.

If you want to know more on the many initiatives and activities ENSAMBLE organises, like “Let’s reduce the marine litter “ensamble”” contest for schools, “Click up the Med”, their “Edukit for schools – Be plastic free” or about their events and meetings, you can check the project website.
