Description

The study was implemented through the Framework Contract Scientific Advice for Fisheries in Mediterranean and Black Sea waters (EASME/EMFF/2016/032).

The objective of the study is to identify and match biological and management stock units of several important demersal species in the Mediterranean: European hake (Merluccius merluccius), red mullet (Mullus barbatus), deep water rose shrimp (Parapenaeus longirostris), giant red shrimp (Aristaeomorpha foliacea), blue and red shrimp (Aristeus antennatus) and Norway lobster (Nephrops norvegicus). All specimens of each target species sampled were analysed in a comprehensive genetic study, allowing an unprecedented biogeographic analysis and a genetic characterization at Mediterranean scale. The study also aimed at delineating fishing grounds and carry out stock assessment, combining different data sources.
