Description

The brochure highlighs the achievements of environmental NGOs supported by the LIFE programme focuses on climate action and those campaigns and initiatives undertaken thanks to the biannual LIFE operating grants. Typically, around 30 NGOs every year are supported by LIFE funding, the majority of which are active in the areas of climate mitigation and adaptation, and climate finance.

NGOs have focused on key EU climate legislation, such as the Emission Trading Scheme and the Effort Sharing Decision, ensuring that it is fit for purpose and performing well. Environmental NGOs recognise that Europe can be a world leader in the field of climate action and are eager to ensure that its commitments under the Paris Agreement are not only met but are exceeded.

NGOs play a valuable role towards achieving climate targets and a sustainable future, highlighting areas where policy can be improved and putting pressure on all stakeholders to deliver. LIFE funding for many is a central and vital part of their campaigning and lobbying efforts.

This is the fourth time a brochure has highlighted examples of activities carried out by environmental and climate action NGOs that have been awarded LIFE operating grants. The aim is to not only give a broad overview of the contributions made by these NGOs over the period 2016-17, but to show how these efforts have led to beneficial results in a very important area, namely climate change.
