Description

Climate change and biodiversity loss are two of the greatest challenges we face today. These twin crises are closely interconnected—climate change accelerates the decline of both habitats and wildlife, which in turn reduces nature’s ability to cope with and adapt to its impacts. Therefore, addressing them requires joined-up policies and solutions.

The European Commission defines Nature-based Solutions as: “Solutions that are inspired and supported by nature, which are cost-effective, simultaneously provide environmental, social and economic benefits, and help build resilience. Such solutions bring more, and more diverse, nature and natural features and processes into cities, landscapes and seascapes, through locally adapted, resource-efficient and systemic interventions.”

The LIFE Programme is the EU’s funding instrument dedicated to environmental and climate action, supporting projects that contribute to the implementation of EU policies and legislation.
