Description

LIFE is a dedicated EU financial instrument for the environment. Therefore job creation and the development of skills have not been its main objectives. Nevertheless, as this publication illustrates, the programme has played its part in creating permanent jobs and training schemes that have lasted well beyond the duration of LIFE funding. Launched in 2010, a flagship initiative ‘New Skills for New Jobs’ within the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth aims at creating new job opportunities in the EU. LIFE projects also have demonstrated their ability to contribute to this agenda. LIFE has stimulated green skills and jobs and contributed to the emergence of a green jobs market where employers and employees can find each other.
