Description

The aim of this study is to present the existing compensation mechanisms within the context of LIFE-Nature projects, focusing particularly on two species of large carnivores that have received significant community support, namely the wolf and the bear.
The study presents and compares the compensation systems in the European Union countries that have had or still have LIFE-Nature projects on the wolf and/or the bear (namely Austria, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain), and attempts to point out what seems to have worked in a particular case and what not.
