Study assesses multi-species fisheries in the Northwest Atlantic

Multispecies fisheries management became lately the trend to follow.

As it accounts for relationships among a number of fish species within an ecosystem, it allows for a more holistic approach than the single species fisheries approach. A new EMFF study analyses its challenges and its usability in the area of the Northwest Atlantic.

The purpose of the study is to provide a comprehensive overview and analysis on how multispecies assessment would fit into the scientific and decision making processes within Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization.

The study for example identified the Flemish Cap as the best candidate fishing ground in North Atlantic Fisheries Organization. However, the economic analysis of trade-offs revealed no best option for all EU fleets fishing simultaneously.

The whole study is available at EU Bookshop .
