The 13 July 2021, the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

This followed the approval by the Parliament last week with a great majority and a political agreement reached with the Council at the end of last year.

For the period 1 January 2021 - 31 December 2027, EMFAF will provide €6 108 billion financial support for the protection of our seas and oceans and the sustainable management of their resources.

The Fund will constitute one of the most effective tools to attain the goals of the European Green Deal.

It will contribute to promote biodiversity, supply healthy and sustainable seafood (from fisheries and aquaculture) and develop a competitive Blue Economy with thriving coastal communities in the EU.

The EMFAF budget delegated to CINEA will focus on targeted actions in the field of the Union’s Maritime Policy, the Common Fisheries Policy and the EU international ocean governance agenda.
