The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) has released a new 'CEF Energy-Supported Actions' brochure presenting EU funding for energy infrastructure projects for the 2014-2020 period. The publication gives an overview of all 149 actions receiving €4.7 billion of EU funding, including the key features of the programme and a breakdown by sector.

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) is a flagship funding programme with a key role in supporting the European Commission’s priorities related to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, and the EU’s Europe 2020 Strategy objectives in the area of energy and climate policy. Since its launch in January 2014, the CEF has been supporting the development of high performing, sustainable and efficiently interconnected trans-European networks in the areas of transport, energy and telecommunications.

In the energy sector, the programme supports the implementation of key infrastructure projects of common interest (PCIs) in the areas of electricity, gas, smart grids and cross-border carbon dioxide networks. CEF funding for PCIs contributes to the decarbonisation efforts of the EU in the context of the European Green Deal, promoting further integration of the internal energy market, enhancing security of energy supply and integrating energy from renewable sources into the network.

The results presented in the brochure clearly show that the CEF programme delivers on its objectives and provides added value for the completion of the European energy network.
