Innovation Fund Small-scale project call

INEA has received 232 project proposals by the deadline of 10 March 2021 for the first call for small-scale projects requesting a bit more than €1 billion from the Innovation Fund, 10 times more than the available budget.

Proposals received come from all Member States, Iceland and Norway. The fund is one of the world's largest funding programmes for demonstration of innovative low-carbon technologies.

During the second quarter of 2021, the proposals received will be evaluated by a pool of experts, managed by the new CINEA under the responsibility of DG for Climate Action.

Background

This is the first call for small-scale projects under the Innovation Fund (IF), in July 2020 the Innovation Fund launched the first ever call for large-scale projects, which evaluation of proposals received to the first stage is currently undergoing. The fund will contribute to Greenhouse Gas avoidance with revenues coming from the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), the world's largest carbon pricing system, from the auctioning of 450 million allowances from 2020 to 2030. The Innovation Fund will also benefit from any unspent funds from the NER300 programme.

The evaluations of the proposals, after checking their eligibility will start mid-April. Applicants will be contacted with the results of the evaluations Q3 2021. Check all the information in the INEA website, and stay tuned for the next call for projects opening in 2021.
