Horizon Europe: over €466 million available to fund new climate, energy and mobility research projects

The European Commission has launched new calls for projects under Horizon Europe's 2026-2027 Work Programme for Cluster 5 – which groups together topics on climate action, energy and mobility.

A total of €466.7 million in EU funding is available under these calls covering the following Destinations:

  • Climate sciences and responses for the transformation towards climate neutrality (HORIZON-CL5-2026-07, HORIZON-CL5-2026-08-Two-Stage)
  • Sustainable, secure and competitive energy supply (HORIZON-CL5-2026-03, HORIZON-CL5-2026-04-Two-Stage)
  • Clean and competitive solutions for all transport modes (HORIZON-CL5-2026-05, HORIZON-CL5-2026-06-Two-Stage)

Background

Horizon Europe is the EU's ambitious research and innovation programme for 2021-2027, with a budget of €95.5 billion. CINEA runs parts of the programme targeting energy, climate action and mobility research actions, grouped into Cluster 5. 

The overarching driver for this Cluster is to accelerate the twin green and digital transitions and associated transformation of our economy, industry and society with a view to contributing to the EU reaching its climate goals, and increasing energy resilience.

How to apply?

Following the adoption of the Horizon Europe 2026-2027 work programme, the European Commission has launched new calls for project proposals under Cluster 5. 

What are the requirements for applying?

The requirements for submitting a project proposal are detailed in the relevant documents published on the individual call page.

The submitted proposals are evaluated by independent experts drawn from the European Commission's database of external evaluators. Applicants will receive the evaluation results at the latest five months after the submission deadline. Grant agreements will be signed with the successful applicants within eight months after the submission deadline.
