Handy new tools to help you with the new EU energy labels!

New Energy Labels

On 1 March 2021, dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, and electronic displays with ratings as A+, A++ or A+++, returned to a simpler A-G scale.

The new version of the EU energy label came into effect to help consumers cut their energy bills and carbon footprint, while paving the way for more innovative and energy efficient products.
H2020 Energy Efficiency funded projects Label 2020 and BELT, are developing digital tools to support the smooth introduction of this new generation of energy labels.
On one hand, the LABEL 2020 web app will support consumers in their appliance selection and purchase decisions in stores and for online shopping.
By simply scanning the QR-Code on the label, consumers can easily compare various product features and get estimations on the expected running costs – and with adding the purchase price, an indication of total cost as well. Consumers will also identify at a glance the top energy efficiency class currently available on the market for the specific product. The tool uses the data from the European Product Database for Energy Labelling (EPREL) and is optimised for use on smartphones and PC.

On the other hand, the BELT tool, helps consumers compare appliances in terms of their annual energy consumption, CO2 impact and related cost. The tool, which is available in various languages, allows personalisation depending on household size and provides  explanations on various pictograms of the new energy labels.
