#EULife22 Call submission results: 751 LIFE project proposals. Total cost €2.9 billion

The LIFE Programme's 2022 Calls for nature, environment, climate action and clean energy transition projects has resulted in 751 proposals coming in from across the EU.

#EULife22 - Call for proposals

The 2022 Call for standard action and clean energy transition projects closed on 4 October and 16 November, respectively. Applicants come from almost all EU countries.

The proposals have a total cost of around €2.9 billion, which can be broken down as follows:

  • €664 million for nature & biodiversity - 122 applications
  • €1.3 billion for circular economy & quality of life - 239 applications
  • €633 million for climate change mitigation and adaptation - 165 applications
  • €284 million for clean energy transition - 225 applications

These prospective LIFE projects have requested just under €1.8 billion in co-financing from the EU.

Between them, they aim to:

  • Protect Europe's nature by halting and reversing biodiversity decline.
  • Enhance the circular economy through new technologies and solutions.
  • Protect, restore and improve the environment and as a result, people's life quality.
  • Cut greenhouse gas emissions, increase climate change resilience and boost awareness of climate change mitigation.
  • Accelerate the clean energy transition through a greater uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions.

The projects can help Europe become a climate-neutral continent by 2050. They also support the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the EU's Circular Economy Action Plan while contributing to a clean energy transition

What happens now?

An independent evaluation of each proposal will take place. The European Commission will inform applicants of the outcome in spring 2023. Grant agreements will be signed in summer 2023 with the new projects starting later in the season.
