The first call under the 2021 CEF Energy programme, looking for proposals for Projects of Common Interests (PCIs), closed on 19 October 2021. CINEA received a total of 12 proposals submitted by participants coming from 15 different countries and with proposed actions in the areas of electricity, gas and cross-border carbon dioxide networks.

The total requested budget for the 12 infrastructure projects is over EUR 1.3 billion. That said, the available budget for funding is EUR 785 million.

Admissibility and eligibility of the proposals will now be checked and the proposals will then be evaluated against the specific award criteria of the call. The entire evaluation process, which will involve external independent experts, is expected to be concluded by January 2022, when the results will be announced.

The selected proposals will contribute to global goals such as:

  • enabling the implementation of trans-European PCIs in the energy sector.
  • supporting energy infrastructures that have significant socio-economic benefits and ensure greater solidarity among Member States.
  • contributing to the goals of the Green Deal, as well as the Paris Agreement and the 2030 climate and energy targets and long-term decarbonisation objectives.

The call opened for submission on 7 September 2021.
