CEF Energy: EUR 1.25 billion allocated to 41 cross-border energy infrastructure projects

CEF Energy Results 2024

In the context of the European Green Deal and REPowerEU, EU Member States have given the green light to a Commission proposal to invest EUR 1.25 billion under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy to develop 41 cross-border energy infrastructure projects (all with the status of Projects of Common Interest and Projects of Mutual Interest) that contribute to the development of the TEN-E networks.

These are the award results of the call for proposals launched in April 2024, which has been the largest under the current CEF Energy programme, both in terms of number of applications submitted and the amount of funding granted, exceeding the call’s initial indicative budget of EUR 850 million.

“The Connecting Europe Facility for Energy is a success story that keeps delivering on its goal to provide modern, interconnected sustainable energy infrastructure to EU citizens and businesses. The major results of this CEF Energy call show the reinforced commitment of both the industry and the EU to achieve an integrated EU energy market and the EU's decarbonisation objectives,” said Director of CINEA, Paloma Aba-Garrote.

The 41 selected projects cover both works (5) and studies (36) in the fields of electricity, hydrogen and CO2 infrastructure.

The formal adoption of the decision by the European Commission on the selection of proposals and award of grants for action will follow in the coming weeks. Then CINEA will start preparing the grant agreements with the beneficiaries.
