CEF Energy PCI call 2025 - results

The Commission is investing approximately €650 million from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme in 14 cross-border energy infrastructure Projects of Common Interest (PCIs) and Projects of Mutual Interest (PMIs) contributing to the Trans-European Networks for Energy (TEN-E).

For the first time, CEF Energy funding is being used to finance resilience measures for electricity infrastructure dedicated to the Baltic Synchronisation. At the same time, we are witnessing the first grant for works for a hydrogen project: Hydrogen Storage Gronau-Epe RWE in Germany. Among the projects selected for funding, 6 are related to electricity infrastructure  including smart electricity grids (4 for works and 2 for studies) and 8 are hydrogen infrastructure investments (1 works and 7 studies).

Paloma Aba-Garrote, Director of CINEA stated:

Through the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy, we are investing in practical improvements to our energy system. This includes support for key projects such as resilience and protection measures for critical energy infrastructure in Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, developing pumped storages in Spain and Slovakia and a pioneering hydrogen storage project in Germany. These initiatives show our clear commitment to a secure, resilient, sustainable and affordable energy infrastructure across Europe. They also reflect our determination to build an integrated energy market that can meet current needs while supporting future decarbonisation goals. As CINEA, we are proud to contribute to these efforts, driving the EU's energy transition and encouraging cooperation that empowers both citizens and businesses.
