PlastTalk webinar: the northern environment and biogas production challenges biodegradable plastics

Organised by the Finnish Environment Institute, coordinator of the PlastLIFE project, this PlastTalk webinar will take place on 15 December 2025 and will present research-based insights to support future decision-making on biodegradable plastics.

Biodegradable plastics are seen as a sustainable solution, but their performance and impacts vary under different conditions. This PlastTalk webinar explores how these materials behave in cold Northern European climates and anaerobic biowaste treatment processes.

Designed for Nordic and EU policymakers, parliamentarians and stakeholders, the session will present evidence-based recommendations on biodegradable plastics in relation to soil, aquatic environments and biogas plants, highlighting both potential benefits and risks.

The discussion is linked to the Finnish PlastLIFE project, which aims to promote a safe and sustainable circular economy for plastics.
