PlastTalk webinar: the northern environment and biogas production challenges biodegradable plastics

Biodegradable plastics were seen as a sustainable solution, but their performance and impacts varied under different conditions. This PlastTalk webinar explored how these materials behaved in cold Northern European climates and anaerobic biowaste treatment processes.

Designed for Nordic and EU policymakers, parliamentarians and stakeholders, the session presented evidence-based recommendations on biodegradable plastics in relation to soil, aquatic environments and biogas plants, highlighting both potential benefits and risks.

The discussion was linked to the Finnish PlastLIFE project, which aimed to promote a safe and sustainable circular economy for plastics.
