The LIFE in the Ravines will hold its final conference to showcase its work restoring precious ravine (Tilio-Acerion) woodlands across the Peak District National Park (United Kingdom). Through the largest restoration project of its kind, the initiative has helped bring these rare habitats back to life following extensive damage caused by ash dieback disease.
Over the past six years, thousands of native trees have been planted to replace those lost to the disease, helping to restore some of the most severely affected woodlands within the Peak District Dales Special Area of Conservation. This protected site forms part of the Natura 2000 network, the European Union’s network of protected areas established to safeguard Europe’s most valuable and threatened habitats and species. Supported by funding from the EU LIFE Programme, the project has strengthened the resilience of these unique ecosystems and contributed to their long-term conservation.
During the conference, project partners will present the main achievements, lessons learned and challenges encountered throughout the project. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in workshops and site visits highlighting the practical woodland restoration work carried out on the ground.
