The 2021 edition of the EU Green Week took place from 31 May - 4 June. During the week, the LIFE programme held several events to address a wide range of topics and themes.
These include the LIFE Awards 2021 which celebrated the best environmental and climate action projects.

LIFE for clean air – EU funding in pollution hotspots

The session explained how LIFE projects are working to curb air pollution. Participants learned how the next LIFE programme will continue to help pave the way towards zero pollution and not only of our air.
High profile representatives from the Directorate-General for Environment and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) presented the current EU policies on zero pollution. Also, LIFE Clinsh and the LIFE Malopolska projects presented how they have been working to reduce air pollution.
Steering innovation in energy-intensive industries – challenges and opportunities

Speakers discussed how the roll out of breakthrough technologies can be jointly promoted by economic and command and control instruments. This session also explored the future role of the Industrial Emissions Innovation Observatory in monitoring progress in ongoing innovations for the benefit of the IED sectoral BAT Reference documents (BREFs).

LIFE virtual stand

4 LIFE projects: LIFE Index-Air (1 June), LIFE Biorest (2 June), LIFE SEACAN and LIFE SIAMEC (4 June) joined the EU LIFE virtual stand to describe their innovations and interact with the EU Green Week online participants. LIFE Neemo representatives also promoted the most recent and relevant LIFE publications, technical studies and videos on zero pollution. Neemo representatives were also answering questions on the 2021 LIFE Call for proposals and the new European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) – LIFE’s new home.
