The agriculture and food sector had recently gained significant policy prominence, with the current European Commission placing it high on the EU agenda. On 19 February 2025, the Commission published its Vision for Agriculture and Food, setting out a framework to ensure the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of the EU’s farming and food sector up to 2040 and beyond, while fostering growth, innovation and wider societal benefits.
This Platform Meeting highlighted how LIFE projects contributed to the implementation of the Vision for Agriculture and Food. It provided a forum to exchange best practices and explore innovative solutions to the key challenges facing the EU’s agricultural and food systems, including climate change (mitigation through emissions reduction and removals, and adaptation), biodiversity loss, soil degradation, economic viability and fairness, resource efficiency and food security.
This event was hosted by the University of Bologna and its IMAGE LIFE project, in collaboration with the Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) and the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA).
