LIFE BE-WoodEN Final Conference

For three years, the LIFE BE-WoodEN project, funded by the LIFE Programme, had worked to promote timber as a sustainable construction material and to remove barriers to its wider use in Europe. Timber buildings could significantly reduce carbon emissions compared to conventional construction, yet adoption had remained limited. The project encouraged low-carbon building solutions, improved circularity and strengthened local timber supply chains, supporting the New European Bauhaus values of sustainability and inclusiveness.

To celebrate the project’s achievements, a final conference was held under the title: “Tackling embodied carbon through wooden construction. The role of bio-based materials and the New European Bauhaus in building greener futures.” The conference was part of the programme of the Decarbonisation Summit, organised by Housing Europe. The event featured a networking lunch and presentations on social housing innovation, project results and the impact of the LIFE Programme.
