On 29 and 30 November 2022, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and the European Commission's DG Climate Action organised Info Days to present the Innovation Fund's third call for large-scale projects. This new call has a budget of EUR 3 billion and it includes four different topics.
The Info Days are divided into two parts:
- Part 1 - Tuesday 29 November (p.m.): lessons learned from the previous call for large-scale projects (Link to the recording)
This session will cover an aggregated analysis of the results of the previous call for large-scale projects, highlighting best practices and tips for a successful application.
- Part 2 - Wednesday 30 November (all day): key features of the new call (Link to the recording)
The morning session will introduce the key features of the new call, the award criteria, and an overview of the four topics. In the afternoon, the CINEA Financial Engineering team will present the methodology for calculating relevant costs, and DG CLIMA and JRC will present the GHG emission avoidance methodology.
The info days will be interactive with contribution from participants via sli.do (#IFLSC2022).

Description
More information
The Innovation Fund is a dedicated funding programme for the deployment and up-scaling of innovative low-carbon technologies, aiming to bring to the market industrial solutions to decarbonise Europe. The Innovation Fund is funded with revenues from the auctioning of allowances from the EU Emissions Trading System.
The Commission has launched two calls for large-scale projects to date (total capital costs above EUR 7.5 million) with a total budget of EUR 2.5 billion in the energy-intensive industries, renewables, energy storage, and carbon capture, use and storage.
In the first call, seven projects received an EU contribution of €1.145 billion. In the second call, 17 projects requesting a total EU contribution of EUR 1.8 billion, successfully passed the evaluation phase and were invited to start the grant preparation process. Grants will be awarded in the last quarter of 2022.
