Description
As the deadline of the third call for Cross Border Renewable Energy Project (CB RES) status is approaching on the 6 February 2024, CINEA will be organising a final round of Q&A to clarify pending questions to ensure successful applications for the CB RES Status.
The session will take place online on 19 January, from 10h00 to 11h00.
Participants are invited to submit their questions via Slido. The link is already available so feel free to submit the questions prior to the event, here.
Questions submitted before the event will be answered in priority during the event, then participants will also be invited to ask questions directly depending on time constraints.
Background information
What is CB RES?
The scope of the CB RES programme covers renewable energy projects that involve a physical or non-physical cross-border cooperation between EU Members States, but also a Member State and non-EU countries pursuant to the CEF Regulation CB RES projects should contribute to the generation of renewable energy as defined in article 2 of RED II, their connection to the grid and additional elements such as storage or conversion facilities.
CB RES projects do not have a capacity threshold and are not limited to the electricity sector. They can cover other energy carriers such as hydrogen and end-use sectors such as heating and cooling, power-to-gas, storage or transport. A project developer can seek financing for preparatory studies contributing to the development of a future CB RES project generation, but also for studies and works.
Status call: Having the official CB RES status is a requirement to be eligible for financial support for works and studies, and it can provide further benefits such as higher visibility, increased investor certainty, and stronger support from Member States..
Technical studies and works call: to support technical studies with or without physical intervention (e.g. environmental impact assessment studies; geophysical studies; sea bed studies, etc) and the works (e.g. to build the renewable energy plant). For both studies and works, note that a project’s operational costs cannot exceed 10% of the overall cost and developers have to prove its non-commercial viability, justifying the need for subsidy. The maximum co-funding rate is 50% of the overall cost. More information about the scope of financing may found on the CB RES webpage. In order to apply for this type of call, a project needs to be first selected in the status call.
How to apply
The third call for projects looking to obtain the CB RES status is open from the 07 November 2023 and closes on the 06 February 2024 5 pm CET (Brussels time).
Promoters of candidate projects for the CB RES status can participate in the call by submitting an application via the dedicated CB RES submission platform.
Project promoters should ensure that they have an EU LOGIN account in order to apply via the CB RES submission platform. To create an account in EU LOGIN, you need to provide basics information and have a valid email address. Please follow these instructions to create your EU LOGIN.
All projects with the CB RES status are on a list of eligible projects (the CB RES list), however this does not guarantee CEF funding. Once part of a CB RES list, projects may participate to CEF CB RES calls for technical studies and works and apply for CEF funding.
