EU Green Deal - Research and Innovation as a driver towards Climate Neutrality two-day event in Expo2020 Dubai (3-4 October 2021)

Becoming the world’s first climate-neutral continent by 2050 is a once in a lifetime opportunity to modernise the EU’s economy and society and re-orient them towards a just and sustainable future. The European Green Deal is our roadmap for this transformational change, by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas and making the transition just and inclusive for all.

Research and innovation are key to fostering new technologies and spreading successful sustainable solutions and disruptive innovation across Europe and the world. The EU's research and innovation programmes and initiatives provide powerful instruments and innovative governance. If coupled with financial instruments, they can drive the necessary systemic changes to reach climate neutrality and ensure an inclusive ecological and sustainable transition.

This EU event is organised in the framework of Expo2020 Dubai and it aims to highlight the EU’s excellence in research and innovation as a tool towards climate neutrality and sustainability, and the EU’s ambition of cooperating with partners toward the achievement of this global goal.

The event is organised by the European Commission, and it is hosted at the Sweden Pavilion, Expo 2020 Dubai. The event will host a high-level workshop on October 4 and a dedicated EU projects’ Networking Village during October 3-4 2021. The high-level workshop is organised as a hybrid event. The eCOCO₂ project (https://ecocoo.eu/) was selected to be presented as outstanding value H2020 project that already helps to deliver the European Green Deal objectives and climate neutrality. eCOCO₂ combines smart molecular catalysis and process intensification to bring out a novel efficient, flexible and scalable CCU technology. The project aims to set up a CO₂ conversion process using renewable electricity and water steam to directly produce synthetic jet fuels with balanced hydrocarbon distribution (paraffin, olefins and aromatics) to meet the stringent specifications in aviation.
