All over the world, peatlands were under great pressure, with their numbers and condition declining alarmingly. Preserving peatlands was crucial to counteract the effects of climate change and biodiversity loss.
In this context, the international symposium ‘Peatland Perspectives – Restoring for Tomorrow’ addressed the greatest challenges and opportunities for European peatland conservation and restoration. The event was aimed at public bodies, policymakers, land managers, and other specialists in Europe who were responsible for peatland habitats.
The symposium was organised by four projects funded by the LIFE Programme for peatland restoration in the Netherlands and Germany. The projects – LIFE Multi Peat, Peat Pals for LIFE, AddMire LIFE and LIFE CrossBorderBog – together form a collaboration and knowledge platform called BOG4LIFE.
