A railway bridge over the Regalica river

Regalica river bridge
building the bridge over the Regalica river

The project aims at ensuring sustainable and efficient inland waterways and rail transport to/from the core seaports of Szczecin and Świnoujście, on the Baltic-Adriatic Core Network Corridor in Poland. The connection between the sea ports and the hinterland will be enhanced through the construction of a new double-track railway bridge over the Regalica river (Eastern Oder). It will replace an old single-track drawbridge, whose clearance of less than 3 metres does not allow for the navigation of larger vessels, unless the movable span of the bridge is risen. This prevents safe and free navigation of inland waterway vessels under the bridge and disrupts train traffic on the railway.

The new railway bridge will be around 278 metres long and 14 metres wide, with a vertical clearance of 6.20 metres. The higher clearance and enhanced rail capacity of the new bridge will allow unhindered passage of inland waterways vessels underneath it and trains over it, solving the collision of waterway and railway and improve the accessibility to sea ports. On the long run, it will contribute to the sustainability of the transportation links and prepare for
expected future transport flows.
