Making Valencia Port traffic management smarter and more interoperable

The TRAMA project is accelerating the digital transformation of the Port of Valencia, one of Europe's busiest maritime gateways. Supported by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the project is modernising the port's digital infrastructure to improve traffic management, strengthen coordination across the port community and enhance the efficiency of freight transport on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

As cargo volumes continue to grow, efficient coordination between the many actors involved in port operations is becoming increasingly important. TRAMA addresses this challenge by upgrading two of the port's core digital platforms: the Port Community System (PCS) and the Terminal Operating System (TOS).

These modernised systems improve the management of vessel calls, cargo movements and logistics operations by enabling the exchange of real-time information between shipping companies, terminal operators, logistics providers and public authorities. The result is better coordination throughout the port logistics chain, reducing administrative procedures, minimising delays and making operations more predictable and efficient.

A key objective of the project is to strengthen interoperability between the digital systems used across the port community. By improving the integration and exchange of operational data, TRAMA supports more effective traffic management and enables better planning of activities both inside the port and across its hinterland connections. The project also improves the quality and reliability of information available to all stakeholders, supporting faster decision-making and helping optimise the use of port infrastructure.

By promoting digitalisation and intelligent traffic management, TRAMA contributes to the EU's ambition to create a more connected, efficient and sustainable transport system. With the support of CEF Transport funding, the Port of Valencia is accelerating the deployment of advanced digital technologies that will improve day-to-day operations while preparing the port for future transport and logistics challenges.
