Hydrogen refuelling stations in Benelux

The main objective of the H2Benelux project is to accelerate the market penetration of hydrogen as a fuel for road transport by supporting the construction of several refuelling stations.

A total of of 8 hydrogen refuelling stations (HRS) in will be built in the Benelux region (1 in Luxemburg, 3 in Belgium and 4 in the Netherlands) across 3 TEN-T Core Network Corridors: North Sea-Mediterranean, North Sea Baltic and Rhine-Alpine.

Part of the stations will be deployed on existing traditional fuel stations while others will be on a greenfield sites. Once fully operational, data will be gathered from both stations and end-users. To do so approximately a core focus group of 70 end users will be actively involved in the real life trial and will provide data and feedbacks on their experiences. Results from operations will be assessed to define business models for the HRS, the client relationship and to define a business plan for the roll out.

The project contributes significantly to the roll-out of alternative fuels stations, supported under the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) under the Connecting Europe Facility for Transport programme. Alternative fuels will decarbonise the road transport sector and their support is in line with achieving the objectives laid out in the European Green Deal.
