As winter covers the Nordic landscapes in blankets of snow, Finland and Sweden are making great efforts toward sustainable road transport.
72 new recharging sites are being equipped with 342 charging points for electric cars along the trans-European transport network (TEN-T) thanks to over €8 million in co-funding from the CEF Transport programme. Designed for light-duty electric vehicles, each recharging station provides a minimum power output of 150 kW, ensuring 24/7 consumer access.
In the spirit of Santa Claus, who calls the North Pole his home, this initiative is ensuring that electric car drivers can journey smoothly and sustainably from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, even in the frostiest of conditions. Operated with 100% certified renewable electricity, this project contributes to the European Green Deal's objectives by delivering emission-free charging solutions. It improves electric vehicle (EV) accessibility, sets a standard for green infrastructure and supports the decarbonisation goals of both countries.
As Finland and Sweden pave the way for cleaner transportation during this festive season, stay tuned for updates on this project which is pioneering electric mobility across the Nordic countries.
Background
The objective of the alternative fuels infrastructure facility (AFIF) under the CEF Transport programme is to support the deployment of alternative fuels supply infrastructure to decarbonise transport along the TEN-T network. Under the 2021-2027 programming period nearly €882 million has been made available for grants to co-fund the deployment of more than 26 000 recharging points for light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles in 4 600 locations across 26 Member States.
