Boosting cross-border road connections in the east - the Via Carpathia

More than EUR 326 million from the Connecting Europe Facility for Transport will be allocated to co-financing the construction of a cross-border road connection on the Via Carpatia route between Poland and Slovakia.

The objective of the project is to support the modernisation of:

  • Poland: the S19 expressway on the Dukla–Barwinek section, for a total length of 18.18 km
  • Slovakia: update the feasibility study for the R4 expressway (approximatively 59.50 km from Polish/Slovak border), in view of the need to complete a new high capacity expressway to meet the current and future traffic demands in the area.

Implementation of the project will provide EU added value in terms of constituting part of the trans-European transport network, which will contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Europe, smart and sustainable economic growth favorable to social inclusion, territorial, social and economic cohesion and access to the internal market and its integration.
